For several years, prior to the pandemic, I was the bereavement caller at a local hospital.  I would call folks who had recently lost a family member.  Many were widows and when I spoke with them a good number of them were having trouble moving forward with their grief for they had concerns of how things would get accomplished in their newly widowed status.

Things like cooking for one, sleeping alone, financial issues, how to pay bills, getting grass cut and snow plowed, traveling alone, car problems, dining out alone, holidays, children, loneliness, safety, mechanical breakdowns.

Things which they depended on their husbands to do, now they had to. Even if they had adult children, they didn't want to impose on their time.

Professional journals and long time grief counselors realize that one of the tasks a grieving person needs to attend to are roles which were previously done by the deceased. This is not therapy but a group I realized was needed.  Now is the time for that group.

That is how this group came about.
